Where did we learn our trade?

When we started out as lifeguards and owners of surf schools, we didn’t expect to find ourselves developing such a big interest and belief in First Aid and pre-hospital care. Being a lifeguard on the beach is not just about paddling rescue boards through surf or swimming out to rescue drowning victims. Once you’ve rescued your casualty, you then have to compose yourself and focus on giving your patient the best care possible.

It’s not all big rescues and major injuries. While working on a busy beach during the summer months, you will come across numerous medical issues ranging from heat exhaustion to anaphylaxis. Many lifeguards go on to have successful careers within the ambulance service due to their vast amount of real life experience and knowledge of first aid that they have gained while working on our beaches.

Through years working with the lifeguard and lifeboat service we’ve honed and refined our skills as first aiders and are now able to combine our passion for First Aid with our other passion – teaching.
