What’s coming up?

The days are getting longer for sure. Have we broken the back of this brutal winter or could there be a cold snap just around the corner?. We have a level 1 surf instructor course March 14th - 16th followed directly by a combined SLSGB Surf Lifeguard and Surf Coach Safety and Rescue course running 17th - 22nd March. We have just finished working with Cardiff University Surf Club. Through February we faced some ‘challenging’ driving conditions from Cornwall to Wales and some even more challenging water temperatures. Our friends at the International White Water Centre in Cardiff let us use their facilities when the storms put the beaches out of bounds and Barry Island was a unique training location in its own way!

While we battled the wind and rain we couldn’t help but look back on the previous month when we delivered another combined surf instructor and lifesaving course with a good friends at The Surf Experience in Lagos. This year the majority of the candidates were Portuguese nationals including local rippers Andre and Miguel Mouzinho. We’ve been working in Portugal a fair bit over the last few years and there are so many things we like about it.

Two of the things that make our job so enjoyable are the people we meet and the places we get to visit. Every course is different which has a lot to do with the group, conditions and the location. This is what keeps us on our toes and keeps things fresh. We’re looking forward to this season and the wide variety of characters that we know we will inevitably meet.
