What is this course and who is it for?
The Surf Coach Safety and Rescue award is lifesaving qualification specific for surf instructors to create a high standard of lifesaving within the surf school industry.
This course is suitable for:
Why is this such an important and popular course?
In the UK it is a requirement to validate a surf instructor qualification with a lifesaving qualification. It is crucial that those working within the industry are competent in First Aid, basic life support and rescue techniques. Instructors can work to a 1:10 ratio, this can be out of lifeguard hours/season, in remote locations and with no immediate assistance. The Surf Coach Safety and Rescue Competency award is hugely popular and considered to be the industry standard amongst instructors nationwide and throughout Europe. You will be trained by highly motivated and experienced instructors with real life operational experience of working in the watersports industry. You must be physically fit and able to complete a 200m timed pool swim in under 5 mins. You will be expected to display a level of competency and fitness in the water. Please ensure that you can achieve these requirements BEFORE attending the course.
This award can be used as the required lifesaving qualification for those wishing to work as surf instructors or to supervise groups at the beach. It is NOT a rescue award for those wishing to work as SUP instructors you will need to hold our SUP Safety and Rescue qualification. To work as a lifeguard you must obtain the full SLSGB Surf Lifeguard award. If you are looking to gain both the lifesaving and surf instructor course over a 6 day period please see our combined course page
If you have completed the award before and your certificate is still in date or has expired within the last three months then we have a one day proficiency course. This will add an additional 12 months to your award. More details here
