What will you do and where will it take you?
The SLSGB Beach Lifeguard course consists of First Aid, basic life support, and lots of time in the surf developing rescue skills and patient care. You will be taught how to administer oxygen to casualties, how to use radios and how to recognise and rescue people in trouble in the water whether conscious or unconscious. Defibrillator training is also included. By the end of the week you will have a solid foundation of all aspects of surf lifeguarding and be ready to apply for employment with the lifeguard service. You could consider doing our Combined Course which includes the Level 1 Surf Instructor award. Gaining two qualifications enhances your employment opportunities. The Surf Lifeguard course will expand your knowledge of the ocean and act as a stepping-stone towards a career on the beach working as a lifeguard or within the emergency services.

Surf Lifesaving Great Britain (SLSGB) pioneered surf lifesaving here in the United Kingdom. Their Surf Lifeguard award, formally known as the Beach Lifeguard award is the highest obtainable qualification in the country for those wishing to work within the surf environment as lifeguards. It’s internationally recognised and has taken many British lifeguards to work around the world including Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
The SLSGB Surf Lifeguard qualification is the preferred award of SLSGB’s partner, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
