WSA surf instructor and surf coach safety and rescue course 6 days. WSA SUP Saftey and Rescue and WSA SUP Foundation Instructor course 4 days. Dates to be confirmed. The surf lifeguard course is held over 5 days.

If you extend your stay for sure! This is what The Surf Experience is all about.  You will get up early, have a good breakfast and then be taken by experienced guides to the best spots. This package is a great for anyone looking to progress seriously as a surfer.

The Surf Experience is situated in the middle of Lagos close to restaurants, bars and shops. There’s free Wifi and an archive of surf films that you will never have enough time to get through.

What we would say is please do your homework before getting on a plane. In certain countries around the world, their own federations or associations may require you to meet their own criteria such as language and surfing tests. Do your research!

Good question! This course is designed to give you the foundation knowledge and experience you need to enter the industry. We build the skeleton together then you go off and put the meat on the bones.

To attend the surf courses you must be able to perform a good bottom turn, cutbacks, top turns and take offs and you must be comfortable in head high surf. To attend the SUP course you must be confident on your board, have reasonable paddling skills and be able to complete a step back turn. Part of the SUP foundation instructor course is designed to improve personal paddling skills through video analysis and feedback.

We feel that it isn’t unreasonable to expect our instructors to be able to surf and sup well. Whilst we dont expect your skill level to be at the top end of the ladder you must have good basic skills.

Yes we always make sure candidates have an opportunity to demonstrate their surfing ability while on the course.

The assessment process is on-going throughout the three days. We will be looking at how you deliver a lesson on dry land and in the water.  We require you to demonstrate everything perfectly that you will teach to your students.

If you are deemed to be “competent” then yes. If we feel that their are certain elements that you need to work on then you will be given an action plan.

If your surfing does not meet the standard required then you have a twelve-month window to get your surfing to where it needs to be. You will then be required to submit photos and video evidence to show us that you have reached the standard. If the first submission is unsatisfactory, you’ll just have to submit a few more.

Candidates must 18yrs to receive the full instructor status. We do train 16-17yr olds and if competent they are able to work as “assistant instructors” and they will be upgraded to “instructor” status when turning 18.

This qualification is valid for as long as you have a valid lifesaving qualification such as the SLSGB Surf Lifeguard or Surf Coach Safety and Rescue award. You will also need to provide evidence that you have been using your qualification annually and any other CPD that you may have been involved with. Our Dlog system allows you to keep an accurate personal record as and when you partake in CPD.
