Steve Bowens - Trainer Water Skills Academy

Steve Bowens Steve has been working in the outdoor industry for over 27 years now as an instructor, trainer, inspector and technical advisor. Over the years he has worked throughout the UK, Europe, Caribbean and New Zealand. As a youth he competed in windsurfing at a national level and surf kayaking at European and world championships. In recent years had found a love of challenges and expeditions including rowing across the Atlantic ocean, and several sea kayak expeditions, last year paddling over 600 miles around the west of Scotland visiting many of the outer Hebridean islands.

Steve has been a lecturer in Sports Science and course manager for a range of courses including the Surf Science and Marine Sports Science in Newquay, Cornwall. He has been a Surf Lifeguard Trainer/Assessor for over 15 years and following a recent paddleboarding accident set up a project called “Surfers Helping Surfers” which provides basic training in what to do if your friend gets into difficult in the sea or surf.

“I love a wide range of watersports and find paddlebaording especially fun due to its diversity; from surf, to sunset cursing or expeditions, it’s just such an accessible and uncomplicated activity. In recent years I have found real enjoyment in introducing people to this wonderful activity and being able to go and explore the coast with people who would otherwise not be able to access these locations”.
